Born in Palma de Mallorca, José María Moreno undertook his initial studies in conducting in Spain, completing advanced studies at the Rimsky-Korsakov conservatory in St. Petersburg with maestro Mijail Kukushkin.

José María Moreno holds the title of Superior Professor of Orchestral Conducting (Conservatory of Valencia). He also holds titles of Singing Professor (Liceo Conservatory, Barcelona) and Professor of Theory, Piano, Harmony, Counterpoint and Composition (Conservatory of Balearic Islands). In addition he is licensed to practice Law from the Balearic Islands University.

Under the guidance of Maestro Pedro Valencia, he is pioneer in introducing techniques Hun Yuan Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong applied to the art of conducting.

Musical and Artist Director of Capella Mallorquina since 1999 and, since August 2017, new Artist Director of Sinfónica de Quintana Roo (México).

 

He has conducted operas, zarzuelas, ballets and concerts in Spain, China, Canada, Russia, México, Colombia, Germany, Finland, France, Italy and Portugal and he is the Musical Director of Festival MúsicaMallorca.

It should be highlighted his performances in the Beijin Forbidden City Music Hall, in the Berliner Philarmonie, in the Helsinki Music Center or in the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. José María Moreno has also had the honour of conducting in the presence of the Pope John Paul II in Rome and also before the King and Queen of Spain.

 

For several years he has been Professor of Improvisation, Conducting Technique, Choir and Musical Analysis at the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands.

Public and critics have highlighted the success of his leadership of the Teatre Principal of Palma de Mallorca, scheduling seasons of Opera, spanish Operetta, Ballet and Theatre as Artistic and Musical Director for the 2012-2015 seasons with titles such as Carmen, La Bohème, Trovatore, Turandot, Aida, Otello, Tosca, Eugene Onegin, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rigoletto, Die Zauberflöte, the Barberillo de Lavapies, Doña Francisquita,  Luisa Fernanda, Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, etc.  with an average annual of 250 representations.

 

Recently he has conducted Opera Galas in teh Riviera Maya; "The Armed man" in the Cathdral of Mallorca with the Balearic Symphonic Orchestra, Capella Mallorquina and Cor Juvenil and Ciutat d'Eivissa; a symphonic concert in Málaga with the Filarmónica de Málaga; "Doña Francisquita" in the Teatro Campoamor (Oviedo); “La Traviata” in the Teatro Villamarta de Jerez; the zarzuelas (Spanish operettas) "La Gran Vía" and "El año pasado por agua" in the Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and in the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo with the Oviedo Filarmonia;  in the Gran Teatre del Liceu an Homage to Enrique Granados, with the Orquestra del Gran Teatre Del Liceu and the Compañía Nacional de Danza of Spain, the successful ballet "Don Quixote" of the CND and the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid in the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and in the Palacio de la Opera in La Coruña with the Sinfónica de Galicia, the famous production of Emilio Sagi of the zarzuela "La del Manojo de Rosas" in the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, an Opera Gala from Festival MúsicaMallorca in the Teatre Principal in Palma de Mallorca, a concert with music of John Williams with the Sinfónica de Galicia and an Opera Gala in Augsburg with the Augsburger Philharmoniker.

 

 

Upcoming projects include concerts in Bogotá with the Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, "La Verbena de la Paloma" in Teatro Campoamor (Oviedo), "Le nozze di Figaro", "Don Giovanni" and "Così fan tutte" in Viseu, Leiria and Batalha (Portugal); some symphonic concerts and Opera Galoas in México with the Sinfònica de Quintana Roo, and Opera Gala and some Sympnoic Choral concerts withe the Festival MúsicaMallorca, the opera "El Reloj de Lucerna" in the Teatre Principal de Palma, symphonic concerts with the Filarmónica de Málaga, etc.
